GEORGE NEWS - Music lovers had a ball at a blues show at the banquet hall of the Civic Centre on 4 November.
The event was a fundraiser to collect money for the Garden Route SPCA's (GR SPCA) next project, a new clinic on the premises to assist animals that belong to people who cannot afford a vet.
Heather Church, chairperson of the Garden Route SPCA, told the guests, "There is a growing need for this service and the proceeds of this show would be used to lay the foundations and first bricks of this important project."
The event was organised and hosted by Graham and Lynne Nelson, who welcomed everyone and thanked the sponsors for their support: Nedbank Home Loans, Securitas Southern Cape, Oakhurst Hotel, Protea Hotel Outeniqua, Zandvliet and Boschendal Wines, Dolphin Paragliding, Fat Fish and La Capannina restaurants, Botlierskop Private Game Reserve and Fancourt and Kingswood golf courses, who sponsored four-ball rounds.
Renowned and seasoned blues muso Brian Finch opened the show.
He performed many of his own compositions and shared some of his life experiences with the audience.

The main show saw The Blues Broers jamming up a storm. They kept the audience entertained until late.
Eventually almost everyone was dancing along with the music, having a great time.
The committee and staff of the GR SPCA thanked the Nelsons for their hard work and enthusiasm for organising the show.
"I was overawed by the generosity of the audience who supported the evening, auction and raffle. Let us not forget the animals that will benefit from this kindness for years to come once our clinic is up and running," said Church.
A delighted Graham Nelson reported that, with Barry Shackleton's R1 000 donation, R32 000 was raised for the SPCA.
