GEORGE NEWS - The Flower Show at the George Agricultural Show, which takes place from 27 to 29 August, promises to have visitors in awe this year with the George Flower Club having challenged flower arrangers with some inte-resting themes in the different classes.
Staging will take place on Wednesday 26 August from 07:00 to 14:30 with judging by Cathy Potton and Marie de Kock starting at 15:00.
Themes include 'Country Garden', 'Orange Glow', 'Twist me, Turn me', 'These Boots were made for Walking', 'Play with textures', 'Circular Surprise', 'Way above the Rest' and 'Pretty Pastels'. The cost to enter is R15 per class.

School children will also be able to take part in their own division (Class 3) for which the instruction is to make a flower arrangement in the form of a shoe. The theme is 'Shoe Gossip' ('Skinderskoene'). The design will be displayed on the floor and will be viewed and judged from above.
The space to be provided will be 60cm (width) by 60cm (depth). Pupils must deliver their entries to the show grounds on Wednesday 26 August between 07:00 and 14:00. Judging begins at 15:00.
A number of exciting and interesting flower and sugar art demonstrations will be held in the Women's Hall (the centre one of the three big halls). Baker's Palace will have a sales table there with cake decorating equipment for the duration of the show.
The demonstrations will take place as follows:
10:00: Flower judges Marie de Kock and Kathy Potton will do a flower arranging demonstration. Theme: 'Seasons'.
12:00: Salomie Terblanche demonstrates how to make butterflies from sugar.
14:00: Sugarcraft artist and author, Grace Stevens from Cape Town demonstrates from her books.
16:00: Kokkedoor finalist Gretha Bester demonstrates 'Piping on cookies'.
10:00: Rodney, of Chipkins, will demonstrate new baking products.
12:00: Andries Kemp, of Rolkem, does an Actiwhite demonstration.
14:00: Greta Bester makes sugar animals.
16:00: Greta Bester demonstrates how to make chocolate roses.
10:00: Local sugar artist Betty Dickson demonstrates: 'Making finger roses'.
12:00: Betty Dickson: Dressing a sugar baby.
14:00: Local sugar artist Jackie Theron demonstrates: 'Painting on Cookies'.
