GARDEN ROUTE | KAROO NEWS & VIDEOS - During the Covid-19 pandemic, the world was at a standstill and lives and activities were put on hold, but that did not dampen the spirit of the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) Southern Cape Choir.
They came out guns blazing and put on an excellent show to emerge as the overall winners of the DCS Western Cape Regional Choral Competition in Stellenbosch on 30 May.
Under the leadership of Area Commissioner Ndileka Booi, the choir also scooped up the second position in most of the categories after battling it out with other management areas from the province. The choir performed a variety of Western and African pieces.
Booi said she was extremely proud of her team.

"They gave it their all during long and strenuous hours of rehearsal sessions during a camp they had in George as they were preparing for the elimination rounds. I thank them for their dedication and discipline throughout the sleepless nights during the camping season until the day of the competition.
"The talent and confidence shown on stage by these choristers proved that they will go all out when they participate in the upcoming DCS National Choral Competition in Gqeberha in September."
She emphasised the positive impact of participation in extramural activities, including sport.
"It is very important in order to have a healthy lifestyle and cordial working relationships with colleagues," said Booi.
