GEORGE NEWS - Carpe Musicam! Orchestra and Choir will entertain guests in George with their next performance on Friday 16 September at 19:00 at the Glenwood House School auditorium.
Their concert is aptly titled Potpourri, as it will indeed provide an assortment of music. The Glenwood Music Academy Marimba Group will perform before the show, with coffee and refreshments on sale during their appearance.
Focus on the little ones
Carpe Musicam! developed a collection of projects aimed at increasing the appreciation and performance of light orchestral and choral music in particular, with an emphasis on the youth of the Garden Route.
Under the banner of Carpe Musicam! two groups were formed with kids in mind - a music group called Kidz and Tots, for two- to six-year-olds, and Roots4Rhythm, which specialises in teaching young people with special needs.
These groups will be getting their chance to perform in public at Carpe Musicam!'s December concerts, where they will be accompanied by the newly formed Carpe Musicam! Youth Orchestra.
This new group caters for youngsters of schoolgoing age and is a wonderful place for aspiring musicians to gain experience in group playing, where discipline, team effort and a host of other life skills are also learned.
For more information, contact Norman or Elsabe through the Carpe Musicam! website.
Since 2015, the Carpe Musicam! Orchestra and Choir have been giving an average of 12 performances per year in the Garden Route area. In keeping with their home-made term, "Unsymphony Orchestra", their repertoire is made up mostly of popular 20th century music. The presentation is light-hearted and the atmosphere is deliciously informal. Clapping between movements is not frowned upon; nor is standing up and cheering between items.
