GEORGE NEWS - In another exciting development, Romy Foster, a passionate volunteer involved in various upliftment programmes in the informal settlement of Kleinkrantz, has confirmed the launch of a new Tuesday running meet.
Lee Lange, another volunteer, identified the need for a more structured running platform after witnessing the enthusiasm and positive response from the children who took part in the Christmas parkrun at the Garden Route Botanical Garden in George on 20 December.
Running enthusiast Ryan Kaye has since joined forces with Foster and Lange and is assisting the children through an informal running programme.
The aim of the initiative is to create a self-sustaining community running platform while identifying and supporting children who show potential and wish to progress in the sport.
The group has received a donation of running shoes, but there is an ongoing need for more, particularly children's running shoes in sizes 1, 2, 3 and 13. The shoes need not be new, but should be in good working condition. Participants range from toddlers as young as two to 18-year-old teenagers eager to showcase their abilities.
