I wonder whether it’s better to know or not.
Is it better to have time to say goodbye to everyone or to just collapse without any warning?
Is it better to have time to be able to right the wrongs and apologise or just leave and let everyone assume you have forgiven them… or assume everyone has forgiven you.
Now before I knew better I would’ve told you, without thinking twice, it’s best to just collapse and be gone. But after thinking about things and applying my own experiences, I think it’s better to leave knowing that you have no regrets, no resentment and knowing that there will be lots and lots of people at your funeral.
How do you do this? Well… starting with the latter, just have loads of free food and booze at your funeral. You will attract people you didn’t even know. I won’t mind, I won’t be here and someone might make a new friend at my funeral.
Living without regrets and resentment is the tough one which I’m still trying to figure out.
Know one thing. Death does not void the heartache we caused living. Death does not take away the hurt and the angry words. Death is no means to an end. It does however make us, the people left behind, think…
This is what I’m thinking. Maybe the best is to live a good life. To try to live a life where you don’t have to turn around and apologise for being rude, for speaking before you think about what you want to say.
Maybe we should all just try to be the best version of ourselves. At least try to be someone that everyone is okay with to have around. Try to be someone who gives everyone a chance and if it doesn’t work out try to leave with dignity, peace and respect. Try not to go to bed angry at anyone…except animal abusers, murders and rapists…I’m sure it’s okay to be angry at them…but I’m talking about normal human beings. Apologise, even if you don’t speak to that person ever again. Some bridges can be rebuilt. Others not. Deal with it and move on, but do so with a peaceful mind.
Try not to sweat the small stuff.
Shut your mouth and breathe through your nose before you speak too quickly and say something that hurts. We never know when it’s our last day on earth and I think it’s probably best not to die with any regrets. Or leave our loved ones with any regrets toward us.
We can’t choose how we die…well you can…but that’s just selfish…anyway. We can’t choose how we die but we can choose how we lead our lives and how we treat those around us. We can choose to love, hate or simply ignore.
I hope you choose to love, live and laugh… or dance.
