GEORGE NEWS - The second series of races for the George Lakes Yacht Club (GLYC) Commodores Trophy was held in a very light south westerly breeze on Sunday.
Two slow races completed the series, allowing for one throw-out.
A small fleet of 10 in the senior fleet and four in the junior fleet competed.
The junior fleet, competing for the Nissen Trophy, comprised four Optimists.
Kyle America won the first race and Thomas Lawa the second. Tristan Boshoff was third in both races, ahead of John Paul Buys. Kyle, over 5 races, was the overall winner.
The senior fleet had seven Lasers and two Sonnets sailing. In the light breeze, the Sonnets, sailed by Dave Jones and Henry Paine with Naledi, were at a disadvantage as they perform better in heavy air.
With school exams in full swing the youth sailors were absent, except for Georgou Divaris.
He won both races easily, pulling ahead to leads of over 5 minutes ahead of the rest.
He was able to maintain speed and to be mostly in the best wind, whereas the rest frequently found themselves caught in lulls.
Behind were the Lasers of David Laing, Evelyn Osborne and Jonathan Rees.
The overall winner for the Commodores Trophy was David Laing, who sailed a Fireball last Sunday with Chris du Toit.
