GEORGE NEWS - A dog named Gypsy has already survived cancer, the loss of a leg and the loss of the family that should've stood by him.

Now this brave three-legged boy is fighting for one final second chance to get a home where he will be loved for who he is.

Gypsy was found with a large, painful growth on his leg during an outreach by Sentiara in the Lancewood informal settlement.

"Despite everything he was going through, Gypsy was incredibly friendly. When we opened the bakkie door, he simply jumped into the front seat as if he had done it a hundred times before. It made us wonder about his past, because very few people in the settlement own cars. Perhaps Gypsy had once belonged to someone who simply gave him away," says Sentiara's Salomé Bruyns.

Gypsy was taken to the PDSA, where he was diagnosed with cancer. The only way to save his life was to amputate his leg.

After spending several weeks recovering at the PDSA, Gypsy faced another setback. His owner decided she no longer wanted him because he now only had three legs.

"A huge thank you to the PDSA for saving Gypsy's life and to the anonymous donor who generously covered his medical costs. Without that support, he may never have had this second chance," says Bruyns.

Now, after everything he has been through, Gypsy is looking for a loving forever home.

The PDSA cannot keep Gypsy indefinitely as its space is needed for other animals requiring urgent treatment.
