GEORGE NEWS - Zeke Hougaard, Leruo Dithakanyane and Phillip Rothman can attribute their latest hockey achievements to their formative coaching years at Holy Cross Primary.
From Grade 1 in 2012 through to Grade 7, Sheldon Puttick coached these talented boys. Puttick encouraged hard work, dedication, sportsmanship, goal setting and above all, a sincere love of the game.
The boys u.12A and u.13A teams won the SWD (Eden) league in their categories.
Zeke, who currently plays first team midfielder at Paul Roos Gymnasium and for Boland u.18A, Leruo, who currently plays centre back/link first team at Durban High School and for KZN Coastals u.18A, and Philip, who plays first team goalie at York High School and for Eden u.18A, have worked extremely hard to achieve exceptional results.
All three boys, playing both school and club hockey, have achieved numerous hockey accolades and player of the tournament awards in the National PSI Indoor series since the age of nine.
They also represented their respective provinces at the u.18A section of the 2022 IPT in Stellenbosch. Zeke and Leruo were selected for the u.18 A SA team, while Philip was chosen for the highly coveted u.17 High Performance Squad.
As both Zeke and Leruo wish to pursue professional hockey careers locally and overseas, they are now focusing on 2023 Junior World Cup in Chile. Holy Cross Primary is very proud of the boys' achievements.
