CRICKET NEWS - The Garden Route Badgers Colts team recorded their first-ever victory in a three-day match in the Cricket SA Colts competition when they defeated the Eastern Province Colts by four wickets at St George’s Park last weekend.
Eastern Province, who batted first, was dismissed for 212 with Enathi Kitshini (3/58) the pick of the bowlers.
Despite a fine half-century by Breyton Plaatjies (51), the Badgers were bowled out for 187 - a deficit of 25 runs on the first innings.
Fine bowling performances by Elih Thorne (3/34), Grant Esau (3/29) and Sintu Majiza (2/34) were critical as the home side only managed to score 111 (all out) in their first innings.
The former SA U19 captain, Benni Hansen (53*), and Jonathan Bester (38) batted well to get the Badgers over the line (139/6) with four wickets in hand.
In the one-day match on Sunday, the Garden Route Badgers were dismissed for a modest 115, to which Eastern Province replied with 117/6 in 27 overs for a five-wicket victory.
