SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS - The SWD Cricket team produced a disastrous performance last weekend after they lost both the Sunfoil Cup 3-day match and the Cricket South Africa limited overs match against Boland in Paarl.
In the 3-day match SWD won the toss and Neil Hornbuckle (109) who scored his third first class century and Murray Commins (72) had an excellent start with an opening stand of 191. Brendon Louw (70) also made another fine contribution, but unfortunately four batsmen were run-out as SWD posted 318.
Boland, in their first innings, scored 385 for a lead of 67. In their second innings Boland spinner Kyle Simmonds (6/49) produced a fine bowling display as SWD only managed to score 150. Commins (55), who batted for 121 balls, was the only SWD batsman to impress.
Boland (85/3) had no trouble to score the required runs in their second innings for a 7-wicket victory.
In the limited over match, which was played on a very deteriorated wicket, Boland were bowled out for 161 to which SWD replied with 82 all out for a defeat of 79 runs.
This was SWD lowest score in a List A match.
SWD will have to dig deep in the second half of the season to improve their performances. Their next match is against Northerns at Oudtshoorn on 12 January 2017.
