According to a new infographic released by the regstransfers.co.uk, the Japanese auto giant came out tops in a number of key regions such as Australia, large parts of Africa, the Middle East, Asia and parts of Latin America, with countries including Argentina, South Africa, Japan, the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Kenya, Namibia, Botswana, Iceland, Mongolia and Hong Kong.
Volkswagen meanwhile placed a distant second with top honours mainly in Europe including its home country, Belgium, the Netherlands, Croatia, Austria, Switzerland, Norway and Sweden, while Ford placed third and top seller in eight countries (Canada, USA, Venezuela, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Nigeria).
The remaining top seller were Renault (six countries), Skoda (six), Dacia (five) and Fiat (five) with surprises being Isuzu top selling in Zimbabwe and Tunisia, Mitsubishi in Gambia, Chinese company Lifan in Ethiopia and Peugeot in Denmark as well as French Guiana.
