Limited to just 3 000 units for the United States and a mere 300 for Canada, the fastest and most powerful production Dodge ever commands a price tag of $84 995 (R1 116 893), although this does exclude the $1 095 (R14 390) destination charge.
"Eighty-five thousand dollars is not just a number in a business case to Dodge. We know it's a lot of money and a significant up-charge over a Challenger Hellcat," Head of Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and Fiat Passenger Cars, Tim Kuniskis, was quoted as saying.
"We worked very hard to build as much value into the Challenger SRT Demon as possible – features, performance and exclusivity that simply can't be duplicated with a goal of maintaining, and possibly even growing, as much future value as possible".
Tipping the scales at 91 kg less than the already rapid Hellcat and powered by a 626 kW / 1 044 Nm 6.2-litre supercharged Hemi V8, the Demon is said to dispatch the 0-60 mph (96 km/) sprint in a hypercar rivalling 2.3 seconds, and is certified by Guinness World Records as the first production car to lifts its front wheels off the ground.
Despite boasting a completely stripped out interior, FCA has however stated that some options can be re-fitted from as little as $1 (R13), namely the front and rear passenger's seat in leather or cloth, boot lining and customised Demon branded toolkit.
More expensive options though includes the $1 595 (R20 925) Leather Front Seat Group, which consists of Laguna leather and Alcantara trimmed seats with the fronts being heated and ventilated, premium floor mats, heated tilt / telescoping steering wheel and drilled pedals, and the $995 (R13 054) Comfort Audio Group which adds a 18-speaker Harmon Kardon sound system with a 900-watt amplifier and two subwoofers.
A sunroof meanwhile tops the list of most expensive options at a heady $4 995 (R65 532).
