Previewed on the automaker’s official twitter page by company CEO, Michael Lohscheller, the newly named GT X Experimental incorporates what the brand refers to as the Opel/Vauxhall Compass consisting of L-shaped LED headlights, a long bonnet and a grille frame known as the Vizor that is claimed to take inspiration from the eye slot of a motorcyclist’s helmet.
With most of the GT X’s styling cues seemingly coming from the GT Concept shown two years ago, the automaker is set to reveal its new look on the next generation Corsa due out in 2020, followed by the all-new Astra and Mokka X.
“Design will be at the heart of everything that we do in future. It will truly differentiate the Opel/Vauxhall brand, and make it sharper and more relevant to our core values,” Opel/Vauxhall Vice President for Design, Mark Adams, said in a statement.
In a separate announcement, Lohscheller also revealed that the German-British automaker had recorded its first half-year profit in well over a decade following its acquisition by the PSA Group from General Motors last year, with an amount of €502-million (R7.7-billion) and an operation cash flow of around €1.2-billion (R18.6-billion).
“We are a completely different company than 12 months ago. We have set the course for even more competitiveness and have already aligned many areas for the future. We are profiting massively from being part of the successful Groupe PSA. We are very grateful for this – and this is also an obligation,” Lohscheller said.
The result of its PACE! strategy initiated after the buyout by PSA, the company remarked that its recurring operating margin for the first six months of the year stood at five percent, which “clearly shows that PACE! is working”.
“The competitiveness of the production plants throughout Europe was significantly improved. Together with the social partners, Opel management has reached performance agreements at all European sites. This has already led to new investment decisions and product allocations across Europe,” the statement read.
