Aimed at the likes of the Volkswagen Caddy, Ford Transit/Tourneo Connect, Renault Kangoo, Toyota Avanza and Rush as well as the Nissan NV200, the Combo range consists out of the five-or-seven-seat Life that offers between 597-2 126-litres boot space, and the long wheelbase XL that can swallow as much as 2 700-litres.
Part of a three model commercial vehicle line-up with parent company PSA selling rebadged versions in Europe as the Citroën Berlingo and Peugeot Rifter/Partner, the Combo Life does not skip on equipment despite its van origins, with items consisting of an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Electronic Stability Control, heated front seats, USB ports, satellite navigation, Heads-Up Display, panoramic rear-view camera, Park Assist, Lane Keep Assist, Forward collision Alert with Pedestrian Detection and Automatic Emergency Braking, heated steering wheel, cruise control, Traffic Sign Recognition and Driver Drowsiness Alert.
On the commercial side, the Combo Cargo, which earlier this year walked away with the 2019 International Van of the Year Award, offers a payload rating of 970kg to 1 050kg, with wheelbase lengths from 2 755mm to 3 105mm and heights from 1 236mm to 1 305mm.
Riding on PSA’s EMP2 platform that also underpins the Peugeot 3008 and Opel Grandland X, the Combo comes powered by a choice of two turbodiesel engines and a single turbo-petrol, all sourced from PSA.
Connected solely with a five-speed manual gearbox, the entry-level oil burner displaces 1.6-litres and produces 55kW/210Nm or 74kW/250Nm, while the next step 1.5 Blue CDTI makes 96kW/300Nm with the choice of either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic ‘box.
On the petrol side, the PureTech three-cylinder mill displaces 1.2-litres and can be had in two states of tune; 81kW/205Nm when paired to the six-speed manual ‘box and 96kW/230Nm when mated to the eight-speed automatic.
In the United Kingdom, the Combo Life comes in two trim levels; Design and Energy with prices starting at £19 610 (R363 320) for the entry level 1.2 PureTech and topping out at £24 060 (R445 766) for the 1.5 Blue CDTI 130 auto. The Cargo range meanwhile comprises of four trim lines; Edition, Sportive, LE Nav and long wheelbase Crewvan with pricing from £15 630 (R289 581).
Final local pricing and spec will only be revealed closer to the Combo's launch date.
