As with the previous model, the new Ertiga rides on the same platform as the Suzuki Swift, albeit the brand’s new Heartect architecture and stretched by 130 mm. Claimed to be made from 84% Indonesian content, the Ertiga adopts a more aggressive appearance than before in the form of a redesigned grille and projector-type headlights, a more pronounced front bumper, new sidelines and L-shaped LED taillights.
Depending on the trim level selected, the interior comes finished in a beige hue with contrasting brown stitching, backed-up by wood inserts on the dashboard on doors, leather and wood wrapped steering wheel, ventilated cupholders and a new 6.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
Again able to seat seven, the Ertiga’s choice of firepower has been increased with the 1.4-litre K14B petrol engine making way for a new 1.5-litre K15B mill that lifts power from 70 kW to 77 kW, and torque from 130 Nm to 138 Nm.
In select markets, it will continue to be offered with a Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre Multijet turbodiesel engine that produces 66 kW and 200 Nm, or, according to reports, a new in-house developed 1.5-litre oil burner. Transmissions will, however, be unchanged and consist of a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic.
Set to go up against the Honda BR-V and bigger Toyota Innova Crysta, production of the Ertiga will take place at Suzuki Indonesia’s Cikarang Plant, although South African models will be sourced from the Gurgaon factory in India.
