GEORGE NEWS - George Airport handled more than 73 600 two-way passengers during August which represents a year-on-year growth rate of 13%, compared with the same period in 2024.
According to Cape Town Air Access, the air route development project based in the Western Cape, the continuation of the strong growth at George means that the year-to-date passenger volumes now stand at over 582 000 - a 13% growth.
George Airport offers some 80 flights weekly between here and Johannesburg, Cape Town, Bloemfontein, Durban and Lanseria.
George Herald recently reported that the Airports Company South Africa (Acsa) is to spend R310m on expanding and refurbishing the airport.
The current 900 000 passengers that it can accommodate per year will be increased to two million by September 2029.
Construction is expected to start in the second half of 2026 and will take about three years to complete.
An increasing number of passengers is being recorded.
