GARDEN ROUTE| KAROO NEWS - Thousands of pensioners were left in shock and distress on Thursday 2 October when their much-needed old age grants failed to reflect in their accounts.
In a statement issued today, 3 October, the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) confirmed that about 15 000 beneficiaries had not receive their payments due to a technical fault between Capitec and PayInc, the payments clearing house previously known as BankservAfrica.
The error, which caused widespread panic among vulnerable citizens reliant on these grants, has since been resolved. Sassa confirmed that the affected payments would be processed during the course of the day.
“Technical teams worked around the clock to resolve the issue as a top priority,” Sassa said. Both Capitec and PayInc have apologised for the inconvenience and promised to introduce stronger safeguards to prevent a repeat of the glitch.
Captiec urged those who may still face challenges to call 0860 10 20 43, while Sassa’s call centre can be reached on 0800 60 10 11.
