GEORGE NEWS - Police are trying to restore order in Thembalethu after illegal protest action broke out in the area last night (26 November).
It is believed that the protest action was triggered by the removal of illegal electricity connections in some parts of Thembalethu’s informal settlements.
The protesters are continuing with their action this morning - burning electricity poles and transformers - saying if they don't get electricity, no one in Thembalethu should have.
They have also blocked Nelson Mandela Boulevard in Thembalethu with bricks and burning tyres.
The N2 between the Garden Route Mall offramp and the Pacaltsdorp offramp is currently open.
