Update
GEORGE NEWS - Police say that they are making progress in the investigation into the attack on four people near the ravine next to the N2 between Zone 9 in Thembalethu and Rosedale on 13 May.
According to Captain Malcolm Pojie, the Southern Cape police spokesperson, various people of interest have been brought in for questioning at the Thembalethu and Conville police stations.
“At this stage no one can be directly implicated in the attack, but police are making headway. The possibility of it being a gang-related incident is also being investigated,” he said.
The attack
Thembinkosi Yeni (24) and three friends were on their way from Lawaaikamp to Rosedale when they were allegedly ambushed by two armed men. Yeni was shot and killed in the incident.
His body was found in the ravine the next day. Two other men, aged 18 and 19, were shot and injured and the fourth man managed to flee the scene unharmed.
The 18-year-old sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his abdomen and chest. He was later found in Rebecca Street in Rosedale where he had collapsed.
The 19-year-old was found in the ravine with a gunshot wound to his leg. Both of the men were hospitalised.
