Update
GEORGE NEWS - The search for Rudwaan Claassen (26) from Parkdene, the fisherman who was swept off the rocks at Klein Voëlklip near Herold’s Bay on Friday 17 June, is still ongoing.
NSRI Wilderness station commander Mike Vonk said their duty crew was activated just before 14:00 on Friday and two rescue craft were launched.
NSRI rescue swimmers and shore crew, the police, George Fire and Rescue Services and WC Government Health EMS ambulance and their EMS rescue squad responded.
Friends of the man, fellow anglers, confirmed that while fishing along the shoreline Claassen was swept into the sea by a wave and they had lost sight of him. They had immediately raised the alarm.
“During an extensive search a police dive unit was activated and they joined in the search operation on the scene. Despite an extensive search there remains no sign of the missing man,” said Vonk.
