GEORGE NEWS - The George Municipal Choir is more than just a singing group.
The passionate 18-member choir has not only brought joy and entertainment to audiences, but also made a meaningful difference in the lives of its members.
Choir convenor Cilla Smith says the choir was established as part of a wellness programme for staff in 2010. Employees from most departments within the municipality sing in the choir and practice twice a week during their lunch breaks.
"It does not matter what position the members have in the municipality, they are all just here for the music.
"The choir is also a support system and has in some cases even helped members to overcome drug addiction and other social problems," said Smith, a data processor at the municipality.
The choir's repertoire covers several genres of music. They are available to perform at local functions and can be booked by contacting Smith on 062 732 4799.
