GEORGE NEWS AND VIDEO - A large number of Saftu (South African Federation of Trade Unions) members gathered at the GO GEORGE bus depot this morning and are making their way towards the old Skatelab premises.
This forms part of the current nationwide trade union strike. The national strike is over the proposed national minimum wage of R20 per hour, amendments to labour laws as well as economic challenges facing workers and the poor.
From Skatelab, protestors will move down York Street towards the George Municipal Civil Engineering Department where a memorandum will be handed over.
From there they will head down Nelson Mandela Boulevard to the Department of Labour.
No roads will be closed for the duration of the strike.
There is a strong police presence and so far the situation is peaceful.
