GEORGE NEWS - Six talented members of the George Gaming Group participated in the South African Catan Nationals 2024 last weekend in Somerset West.
Ian Morey, Michelle Henderson, Theuns Eloff, Milicia Pretorius, Robert Lamastra and Karien Vrey competed against the country's top 40 Catan players.
The prestigious event was organised by Unplug Yourself, a leading promoter of tabletop gaming and community-building.
Morey and Pretorius showcased exceptional skill, securing spots in the Top 16. Eloff narrowly missed the Top 16, finishing 17th by a hair's breadth.
Jacques van Zyl from Cape Town claimed the championship title. Van Zyl's impressive win earned him a coveted spot at the International Catan tournament in Germany, representing South Africa. He also secured flights and accommodation for the global competition.
The George Gaming Group contestants were proudly sponsored by Eden Toys, supporting their journey to the national tournament. "As the new kids on the block, the George Gaming Group is rapidly making a name for itself in the gaming community, demonstrating impressive force and potential in various tournaments," said Eloff.
"Beyond Catan, the group's diverse membership participates in a wide range of tabletop events, online PC gaming, and console competitions through its subgroups. From strategy and role-playing to esports, the group's enthusiasts showcase their skills and teamwork."
Eloff is incredibly proud of their contestants. "Their dedication, teamwork, and passion for gaming shone through in this prestigious competition."
