GEORGE NEWS - A grave prepared for one of the victims of a fatal car crash on the Thembalethu Bridge on Saturday 23 May nearly became the final resting place of a bull.
Garden Route SPCA inspectors Colleen Thysse and André Baartman were called out to the Thembalethu cemetery on Thursday 28 May at about 21:30. When they arrived, they found the bull stuck in an empty grave.
"The bull was very confused and anxious," said Baartman.
With the assistance of some of the bystanders and members of the George fire department, the bull was lifted to safety three hours later.
Ironically, Thysse was also one of the witnesses of the accident on the bridge that fateful Saturday when the driver of a BMW lost control of his vehicle and drove into three pedestrians.
Two of them, Olona Tando Namntu (17) and Ivan Lizo Sifubra (27) were fatally injured and paramedics declared them deceased on the scene.
The third person was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
