GEORGE NEWS - Two people were killed and one was left seriously injured after a BMW ploughed into three pedestrians on the Thembalethu bridge on Saturday 23 May.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Capt Malcolm Pojie, the accident occurred on the off-ramp on the Mossel Bay side of the Thembalethu Bridge at approximately 12:00 on Saturday afternoon.
The driver, who was returning from a test drive in the BMW with his son, allegedly lost control of the vehicle on the turn-off ramp from the N2 back to George.
"He first hit a female pedestrian on the bridge and then two men on the off-ramp going toward the Garden Route Mall before the car came to a halt. Both men were declared deceased on the scene and the woman was rushed to hospital," said Pojie.
The driver and his son, both of whom sustained mild injuries, were transported to hospital by ER24 paramedics, while Eden 911 paramedics took the female pedestrian to hospital.
The driver and his son have since been discharged and the pedestrian is reported to be in a stable condition. By the time of going to print the identities of the deceased could not be confirmed.
