GEORGE NEWS – A former George councillor, Erasmus (Rassie) de Villiers, passed away on Friday.
De Villiers served on various council committees during his tenure in 2017 and 2018.
George Mayor Browen Johnson, on behalf of the George Municipal Council and the municipal administration, extended sincere condolences to De Villiers’ family, friends and former colleagues.
“Mr De Villiers served the people of George with dedication and commitment over many years. His contribution to local government and public service will be remembered with gratitude and respect,” said Johnson.
“On behalf of Council and the municipal administration, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time. May he rest in peace.”
De Villiers was a familiar figure in George local government and served as the mayoral committee member for Human Resources as well as several other committees.
He stepped down from council in 2018.
