GEORGE NEWS - More than 60 farm workers of 50 years and older received their coronavirus vaccination jab at the Waboomskraal Thusong Service Centre.
According to a statement by the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) this was a collaboration between the GCIS and the Waboomskraal Thusong Centre that visited farms in the Ganzekraal, Waboomskraal and Geelhoutboom to register farm workers for the phase 2 and 3 vaccination rollout.
According to the Western Cape Vaccine Dashboard, 44,37% of people over 50 years in the Garden Route (64 549) have registered to be vaccinated (as of 6 July).
District health spokesperson Nadia Ferreira said 4 559 doses were received for this week. Vaccination of people between 50 and 59 years of age began on Monday 5 July after the opening up of registration on the electronic vaccination data system (EVDS) for this age group on 1 July. Sites in the Garden Route receive quite a number of walk-ins. Some sites have found that fewer of their appointment clients have pitched up.
A total of 46 902 vaccines have been administered in the Garden Route since the start of the vaccine programme. This includes healthcare workers, old age homes and public sites, said Ferreira.
Vaccinations took place at the Waboomskraal Thusong Centre.
