GEORGE NEWS - Section 2C water restrictions and emergency tariffs will remain in place in George for at least another 2 months despite the rise of the Garden Route Dam level to 51.45%.
This follows good rains over the past weekend.
George Municipal Manager Trevor Botha said sustained rain had for the first time had significant positive impact on the dam level since water restrictions were implemented in June this year, but he appealed to citizens to continue saving water as a long hot summer was ahead.
The municipality recorded 82mm rain since Friday (15 September 2017) when the dam was 42.5% full. The latest dam level reading by the Department Water Affairs, this morning (Monday 18 September), is 51.45%.
The official municipal reading will be done on Wednesday (20 September).
“It has rained significantly in the dam’s extended catchment area and we expect water to filter into the dam for a few weeks to come. While this is very good news, the municipal Draught Management Plan addresses George’s water security in a wider context and water restrictions will be here for some time to come,” said Botha.
