GEORGE NEWS - This weekend, she will lay her son to rest forever. This is the reality that Eloise Jansen, a mother from Moeggeploeg in Pacaltsdorp, is facing after her 11-year-old son, Anslihano Jansen, mysteriously drowned in the Tweelingdam behind Harmony Park last week.
Until today, nobody apparently knows exactly what happened on that fateful day.
According to Eloise, her son had gone swimming at the dam with friends after school, but she is unsure of what exactly led to his death.
"When he came home from school, he first washed his and his sister's school socks. He always helped me around the house. After that, he went swimming," she said.
Around 16:00, Eloise started to worry and asked his friends if they had seen him.
"At first, they said no, they didn't know where he was, but when I asked again, they said he was still at the dam," she explained.
"When the children told me where he was, my neighbour and I went to the dam and contacted the emergency services."
Anslihano's body was found in the dam later that afternoon.
Police spokesperson Anelisiwe Manyana said that the circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated. The Pacaltsdorp police opened an inquest docket.
A home service will be held at Eloise's home in Bluegum Street on Saturday 22 February with the church service later in New Dawn Park.
He leaves behind his parents, two brothers and a sister.
