SPORT NEWS - The Thembalethu Wellness Club successfully hosted its annual road running event, the Themba Kasi Run, on Friday 14 August, starting and finishing at Jonga High School’s sports field.
Athletes from towns across the Garden Route came out in their numbers to participate.
The event featured a 5km fun run and a 10km road race, taking participants through the streets of Thembalethu.
Beyond the competition, the race allowed the athletes and visitors to explore and experience a Saturday morning in the streets of Thembalethu, creating a vibrant atmosphere of sport, community and togetherness.
“One of the most important aspects of the Themba Kasi Run is its commitment to celebrating and honouring Women’s Month. The event uses the power of sport to recognise and celebrate the strength, resilience, achievements and contributions of women in our communities,” said event organiser Siviwe Pikelela. He thanked all the sponsors and partners as well as the athletes who came out in numbers.
“The energy, enthusiasm and sportsmanship displayed by the athletes made the day truly special. We are grateful to everyone who travelled from different parts of the Garden Route to join us,” said Pikelela.
He said the club is looking forward to bringing the Themba Kasi Run back bigger, better and stronger next August.
