GEORGE NEWS - The future of the much-loved Outeniqua Choo Tjoe will be the focus of an upcoming University of the Third Age (U3A) talk in George.
Tomorrow, Friday 21 August, Alan McVitty will discuss the future of the Outeniqua Choo Tjoe at a U3A talk at the Emmaüs Care Centre.
The popular steam train, which last ran in 2006, could once again be on track if the challenges surrounding the damaged railway line can be overcome. The historic railway line was severely damaged by floods, resulting in the suspension of the iconic service.
McVitty will be joined by Martin Hatchuel, who will present an illustrated history of the construction of the railway line and look at some of the engineering challenges that would have to be overcome to get the Choo Tjoe up and running again.
The talk promises to offer an insight into both the history of the railway and the possibilities for its future.
Refreshments will be served at 10:00, and the talk starts at 10:30.
