GEORGE NEWS - More than 100 young children enjoyed a morning of stories, singing and laughter at George Library last week when author Reinette Lombard and the much-loved Tippie mascot paid a special visit.
Lombard, co-author of the popular Tippie book series, visited the library as part of an ATKV regional tour organised by Jaco Spies, ATKV’s manager of its regional branches.
Children from ACVV Vinknes, local homeschooling groups, Sonskynland Crèche and Heeltyd Speeltyd Crèche took part in the programme, which included shared reading, singing and an opportunity to meet Tippie.
Rachel Williams, George libraries manager, said the visit allowed the children to experience books and stories in a lively and engaging way.
“The visit was also an opportunity to encourage young children to develop a love of books from an early age. Encounters such as these can help children see the library not simply as a place where books are kept, but as a place where stories come alive, new worlds can be discovered and learning can be enjoyed,” she said.

For the young visitors, the morning offered more than the chance to meet an author and a familiar storybook character. It introduced them to the library as a place where stories, imagination and learning can come alive, while encouraging the development of a lifelong love of reading.
