GEORGE NEWS AND VIDEO - Police confirmed that 8 people were arrested following the illegal protest in Thembalethu and Lawaaikamp this morning.
Captain Malcolm Pojie says the situation is still volatile.
He could not confirm reports that people were injured by rubber bullets fired by police.
A group of protesters are still active along the N2 between Thembalethu and Lawaaikamp, in Nelson Mandela Boulevard.
Sporadic incidents were also reported in Thembalethu and Lawaaikamp.
The N2 between the Garden Route Mall turn-off and the Pacaltsdorp turn-off remains closed after rioting this morning. Two trucks that were petrol bombed need to be removed and the road, littered with tyres and other material, needs to be cleared.
Access into George CBD from the N2 past the Garden Route Mall is open.
Police, traffic and all other role players are on scene and monitoring the situation.
