GEORGE NEWS & VIDEO - A collaborative effort by several role players took shape yesterday, Wednesday 9 February, with the handover of 50 pairs of school shoes to 14 principals of primary schools in mostly rural areas throughout the region.
The launch of this project took place at Conville Community Hall and was broadcast live by EDENfm.
"The idea is to make sure that those kids who have been identified as the most critical, will have shiny new shoes for school," said Garden Route District Mayor Memory Booysen.
The district municipality, EDENfm, Vodacom, George Museum, businesses and dozens of community members contributed towards the Walk-a-child-to-School project which aims to restore the hope, pride and dignity of each beneficiary.

"We anticipate that it will make a significant and progressive impact on the lives of our most vulnerable little ones. Our aim is to put a smile on the faces of children who have never been fortunate to own a pair of school shoes," said Booysen.
EDENfm station manager Morné Pietersen said the project is the start of a journey that will make a difference in many youngsters' lives.
