GEORGE NEWS - The Shoprite Checkers media communications division has confirmed that the cause of this morning's fire at the Checkers Hyper Eden Meander started at the distribution board that caught alight in the early hours of the morning.
The fire was contained at the source. A full investigation is underway and assessments are being done to determine the extent of the damage - mostly smoke damage - and the time needed to get the store operational again.
Staff members have been temporarily deployed to work at the other Checkers supermarket branches in George.
"We apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused and invite them to visit the nearby Checkers St Georges Square or York Street supermarkets until Checkers Hyper Eden Meander is able to reopen," said Saritha van Wyk, communications officer.
