GEORGE NEWS - The Garden Route SPCA, Mossel Bay and George, celebrated milestone birthdays last week.
On Wednesday 15 September the Mossel Bay branch celebrated its 21st birthday, with the George branch hot on its heels, celebrating its 30th birthday the following day.
"We wish to express our sincere gratitude to our volunteers, donors and previous committees, community and staff, that have taken hands over the years with the society," said GRSPCA secretary, Andelean Silkstone.
As part of the celebrations they have also launched a sterilising campaign which will run for the next 16 weeks. The aim is to sterilise 2021 animals.
"Fundraising initiatives have started and we are thrilled to be part of collaborations between vets, donors, the municipality and various other stakeholders. Our aim is to sterilise 2021 animals as our mission remains the prevention of animal abuse," said Silkstone.
To start the project, 23 animals were sterilised last Thursday.
"With this project we would like to decrease overpopulation, unnecessary suffering of animals and overcrowding of animal welfare societies," said Silkstone.
Anyone who wants to get involved with the GRSPCA's fund-raising or the sterilisation project, is asked to contact Rika Bouwer on 044 878 1990.
Joining celebrations in George were, from left: Gerrit and Anneline Schwartz of Investgold; the GRSPCA mascot Nero; GRSPCA secretary Andelean Silkstone; and George Mayor Leon van Wyk; with Councillor Sean Snyman at the back.
The GRSPCA received beautiful cakes for the birthday celebrations.
