Two from George arrested for Mandrax on N2
Two suspects from George, aged 22 and 43, were arrested after the silver Opel Corsa they were travelling in was pulled over by members of the Garden Route Flying Squad on the N2 between Great Brak River and Hartenbos on Monday 17 April.
The suspects were arrested on a charge of dealing in drugs after police found 7 000 Mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R350 000 inside the car.
The Mandrax tablets confiscated from the men who were pulled over on the N2.
Unlicensed firearm
A man (29) from Thembalethu was arrested during a police stop-and-search operation on Nelson Mandela Boulevard in Zone 6 on Sunday 16 April after police confiscated an unlicensed firearm from him.
According to Spies, the man was unable to account for his possession of the firearm. "The firearm will be sent to the forensic laboratory for ballistic tests," said Spies.
The firearm confiscated from the man from Thembalethu.
Pedestrian killed on N2
Pacaltsdorp police opened a culpable homicide docket following the death of an unidentified pedestrian on the N2 near the turn-off to Pacaltsdorp at about 10:10 on Monday 17 April.
At the scene, police determined that the man had been hit by a truck travelling from Cape Town to Gqeberha. He sustained multiple injuries and was declared dead by paramedics on the scene. The deceased has not yet been identified and anyone with information that could assist the police to identify the victim, is asked to contact the Pacaltsdorp police station on 044 803 9100.
Husband in court for murder
The man accused of his wife's brutal murder in Loerie Park in December last year, Rodney Witbooi (33), will make his next court appearance on Wednesday 26 April. Witbooi stands accused of the murder of Soneé Witbooi (28), whom he allegedly attacked with a panga at her parents' home in Boekenhout Street in the early morning hours of 21 December.
The couple lived in an apartment on the premises. Soneé's sister was with her in the house at the time of the attack. She was also injured during the attack and admitted to hospital.
Soneé however, was pronounced dead on the scene. Both their parents were out of town at the time of the attack.
