Update
GEORGE NEWS - The 17-year-old girl who was reported missing on Wednesday 10 April, Anovuyo Makhasi, has returned home.
Thembalethu Police communications officer Captain Dumile Gwavu said Anovuyo called the police Monday 15 April to say that she would return home that evening. It transpires that she was never in any danger, but had just been staying with a friend in Lawaaikamp.
The police sent out a missing person report last week after it was reported that she had left for school on Wednesday, but never returned.
According to the police, she was wearing an Imizamo Yethu School uniform. Fellow learners said Anovuyo was at school but left, saying she was going to the clinic during school hours.
Gwavu confirmed on Tuesday 16 April that Anovuyo had returned home unharmed and that she said she was coming from a friend in Lawaaikamp.
Gwavu stressed that people must inform their parents or next of kin if they will be sleeping over at someone's place. "We ask people to please always report their whereabouts to those closest to them to avoid causing panic.
"Please tell your family if you won't be returning home and tell them where you will be spending the night," said Gwavu.
