GEORGE NEWS - A 60 year old man has been arrested on a charge of manslaughter and drunk driving following last night's accident on the N2 near the Garden Route Mall.
According to Capt. Malcolm Pojie, the man will be detained at the Thembalethu police cells until his court appearance on Tuesday 22 April.
Sonwabo Bonani Nduku (34), a male passenger in the car that was hit by the suspect’s vehicle, was killed in the accident.
The accident took place at approximately 19:30, between the Garden Route Mall and Thembalethu off-ramps. Both vehicles were traveling in the direction of Thembalethu when the suspect’s vehicle hit the other vehicle from behind.
The driver of the vehicle that was hit, a woman, lost control over the car, causing the vehicle to roll. Nduku was a passenger in this vehicle.
The woman was taken to a hospital in George where she received medical treatment. She was later discharged.
According to Pojie, the vehicle driven by the suspect had other passengers. No one in this vehicle was injured.
