GEORGE NEWS - The situation at the GO GEORGE bus depot in York Street remains volatile as taxi owners are still waiting for their impounded taxis to be released.
Local police, law enforcement, the Public Order Policing Unit (Pops) as well as provincial traffic, are containing the situation while negotiations between the leadership of taxi associations, taxi drivers and the traffic department are underway to find a peaceful solution to the situation.
York Street is closed off from York Street Boulevard (Checkers) to the traffic circle at the R102 (airport road). Traffic is being re-directed via Bos en Dal.
The CBD is quiet and all other streets are open for traffic.
GO GEORGE services are still suspended.
