GEORGE NEWS - The grieving family of the young Hlompho Mohapi (25) is still struggling to come to grips with her untimely death.
Mohapi was brutally murdered on Thursday 5 July. She had multiple stab wounds to her chest and her throat was slit. A fisherman found her body lying next to the gravel road that leads to Voëlklip, a very popular fishing spot in Herold’s Bay.
Mohapi will be laid to rest in Thembalethu this coming Saturday 21 July. A memorial service will start at the Thembalethu Community centre at 08:00. after which the procession will move to the Thembalethu cemetery.
Today in court
The suspect who was arrested on 7 July, Phumlani Qusheka (28), appeared in a jam-packed George Magistrate’s Court earlier today, Monday 16 July.
The case was postponed for a formal bail application on 25 July.
Before court proceedings, approximately 150 men and woman from across George gathered at Unity Park in support of Mohapi’s family. They demanded that bail is denied for Qusheka who was arrested in possession of Mohapi’s phone on 7 July.
Qusheka, from King William’s Town, is charged for being in possession of stolen property. He was allegedly on his way home when police arrested him in Knysna.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson, Captain Malcolm Pojie, Qusheka cannot be directly linked to Mohapi’s murder at this stage.
He remains in custody.
