GEORGE NEWS - On 22 February, Garden Route SPCA inspector, Gerda Reynders received an emergency call from the Thembalethu Police regarding a dog that had been beaten to death.
According to a neighbour, the owner started beating the dog after she stole meat out of a pot. He allegedly used a knobkierie to beat her viciously until she collapsed and eventually lay still. He left her for 20 minutes before returning - she was still alive. Her torturer allegedly began battering her again, this time until she was dead.
A postmortem was done, and proof of numerous fractures and massive injuries was found.
A case of cruelty has been opened.
