GEORGE NEWS - A special council meeting for the election of the new George mayor, scheduled for 14:00 this afternoon at the Conville Civic Hall, has been cancelled.
The reason for the cancellation has not yet been given, but municipal spokesperson, Chantel Edwards-Klose, said a statement will be issued later today.
Today’s meeting had been rescheduled from yesterday, Monday 18 May after a municipal official tested positive for Covid-19 and the main building of the municipality had to be closed off for the rest of the week.
The whole building underwent a sanitation process last week, which will now be repeated. The building will only reopen next week Monday, to officials only.
The DA candidate for George's mayoral seat is councillor Leon van Wyk. The opposition has not yet announced their choice of candidate.
