GARDEN ROUTE NEWS – In a powerful boost for local enterprise, over 80 small business owners and entrepreneurs gathered in the heart of the Garden Route National Park this week to gain critical insight into doing business with SANParks.
The SMME Information Session Workshop, hosted by South African National Parks (SANParks) on Wednesday 18 June, at the Tsitsikamma Section of the park, forms part of a broader push to empower small, medium, and micro enterprises (SMMEs) through skills development, meaningful engagement, and access to opportunities.
This initiative is part of SANParks’ Vision 2040, which centres on creating sustainable “Mega Living Landscapes” (MLL), with Tsitsikamma forming a vital link in the envisioned Greater Addo MLL.
According to SANParks Head of Communications and Spokesperson JP Louw, the session unpacked procurement processes and upcoming tender opportunities within the park, helping local business owners better understand SANParks’ supply chain requirements.
SSA Investments (Pty) Ltd provided practical training on costing and tendering, while the Small Enterprise Development and Finance Agency (SEDFA) presented on available business development and financial support.
Attendees were also introduced to the SANParks Sanlam Fund, a unique facility offering zero-interest loans to qualifying SMMEs for bridging purchase orders on SANParks contracts.
This proactive approach underscores SANParks’ commitment to inclusive economic growth, local empowerment and contributing to South Africa’s GDP – all while strengthening ties with communities surrounding national parks.
The day also included lively discussions and networking sessions, allowing local businesses to raise concerns, share ideas, and explore collaboration.
The strong turnout and positive feedback highlighted the real appetite for such engagement, and SANParks’ willingness to walk the talk when it comes to local economic development.
