Update
GEORGE NEWS - The two accused who were arrested a year ago, in March 2023, in connection with the murder of taxi boss Welele Mbudede (60), will make their next court appearance on Thursday 11 April.
Sinenjongo Mgqibandaba (24) and Simthendile Qwaka (40) are accused of gunning down Mbudede outside his home in Thembalethu on Wednesday 1 March 2023.
Initially the accused opted for legal aid, but afterwards decided to appoint their own legal representative.
They were arrested on Thursday 9 March and appeared in the Thembalethu Magistrate's Court the following day on charges of murder and attempted murder after Mbudede was killed and a family member, who was outside with him, injured.
The docket is now with the District Public Prosecutor for a decision whether to prosecute or not.
Both suspects are out on bail.
Mbudede was killed when two men opened fire on him and a young family member outside their house. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died on the scene. The suspects fled after the shooting.
