The company provides supply chain training, education and professional development services throughout South Africa, Africa and the Middle East. Its telesales and research centre in George serves clientele throughout the continent.
"We chose to expand our presence to George based on us being able to find qualified, well-spoken and hardworking individuals whose value systems tie up nicely with those of the company," said Commerce Edge CEO Mr Bernie van Niekerk.
The company aims to be part of the trend in the Western Cape relating to the creation of call-centres that service an international base. "With the advent of the Internet and voice over IP systems the physical locality of individuals becomes less important. This has resulted in us being able to appoint excellent local people to assist us in our international expansion," said Van Niekerk.
Commerce Edge, a member of the IMPERIAL LOGISTICS group, offers 75 programmes in procurement, logistics, warehousing, planning, transportation and various other supply chain-related topics. "Commerce Edge's strategy for Education and Training aligns closely with national and provincial objectives," said Dr Ernst van Biljon, Head of the Commerce Edge Academy.
It offers the internationally renowned CIPS (Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply) qualification - leading to the professional MCIPS designation recognised world-wide; a B.Com in Business Management focusing on Supply Chain through The DaVinci Institute (a private university); and is an Authorised Education Provider for SAPICS (The Association of Operations Management of Southern Africa).
Further, Commerce Edge organizes the annual Smart Procurement World conference, Africa's largest sourcing and procurement exhibition and conference.
Attending the launch was the mayor of George, Charles Stander; the deputy mayor, Daniel Maritz and councillor Iona Kritzinger. Representing IMPERIAL LOGISTICS was Mr Dean Tebbut and Mr David Long of Volition Consulting Services, and the Commerce Edge Directors.
