The combination of red carpets, good food and lucky draws attracted Spud enthusiasts and other supporters from all over the Garden Route. The story of Spud is based on the fictional memoirs of a schoolboy, John Milton, who starts his high school career at an elite boarding school in Kwazulu-Natal.
The author, John van der Ruit, who was a pupil at Michaelhouse school in Kwazulu-Natal, three past house masters of the school, Bill Ashmole, Hugo Leggatt and Allen Duff, also attended the première in support of the fundraiser.
Lion Carl van Blerk said, "The Eden Lions would like to thank all the sponsors who so generously supported the event, with special mention of Harvey World Travel and the Town Lodge who catered to the needs of celebrity guest Julie Summers. Without the help of these special people and their businesses, the Lions would not have been able to hand over an amount of over R14 000 to the Mount Hope Hospice."
