GEORGE ENTERTAINMENT NEWS - An extravaganza designed to highlight a variety of talent in George will be showcased at the Oakhurst Insurance George Arts Theatre with five performances to take place from 10 to 13 October.
Variéte! Variéte! The Greatest Variety Show on Earth! features extracts from well-known Broadway musicals (Les Misérables, Cats, Phantom of the Opera), dancing, circus tricks, comedy and high drama. Writer and producer Carina Beukes describes the show as follows:
"If variety is the spice of life, this show is a delicious Thai curry served on a bed of fragrant rice with crunchy salad on the side!" The show is directed by Bronwyn Stammer, with the help of assistant director Joanelda Brandt.
The story is about a young circus acrobat who falls in love with a singer. However, not everyone is happy about it and things take a turn for the worse. As the story unfolds, the audience will witness a circus performance with aerialists, jugglers and clowns, elaborate dances and dramatic backstage scenarios.
Show times are as follows: 10 to 12 October - 19:00. Matinees on Saturday and Sunday, 12 and 13 October - 14:00.
Tickets cost R110 (adults), R80 (members) and R60 (children). All back row seats (M to P) are R80 (adults). Tickets are available at Computicket, Shoprite or Checkers, or the Arts Theatre booking office (open weekdays from 09:00 to 16:00) 044 874 3142.
