It was a nailbiting situation yesterday, Tuesday 12 July for local engineers tasked with building a new pedestrian bridge along the N2 highway. Jannie du Toit, site manager of Civils 2000, who heads up the project, was visibly relieved when two concrete beams collectively weighing 25 tons, were lifted in tandem and lowered into place using two heavy-duty cranes. The beams form a supporting structure for the pedestrian bridge situated near the Garden Route Mall.
